WIoT Institute Participation at Osaka Face-to-face meeting (O-RAN F2F)

During the recent O-RAN ALLIANCE Osaka Face-to-face meeting (O-RAN F2F), held from June 19 to June 23 in Osaka, Japan, Davide Villa, a Ph.D. candidate and researcher at the WIoT Institute, joined forces with Robert Schmidt and Irfan Ghauri from the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance to showcase the O-RAN over the air demos in a presentation called “NVIDIA ARC with OAI L2+ for Next Generation Innovation.”

During the presentation, the team showcased significant progress achieved through a collaborative effort in developing a fully programmable next-generation open RAN solution, enabling seamless simulation, prototyping, and benchmarking. An additional objective of the project is to democratize ML-enabled and accelerated computer-empowered testbeds, which are pivotal in demonstrating idea viability and establishing reliable benchmarks.

Future networks will embody openness, virtualization, intelligence, and interoperability. To progress in developing cutting-edge network features, capabilities, and key performance indicators (KPIs), it is essential to engage in prototyping and experimentation. The democratization of machine learning-enabled and accelerated computing test beds plays a crucial role in showcasing the feasibility of ideas and establishing benchmarks.
